Critical Role animated series title sequence premieres at NYCC

Critical Role, the wildly popular Dungeons & Dragons actual play series, is coming to Amazon Prime with an animated series called The Legend of Vox Machina. The series will premiere on Feb. 4, 2022, on Amazon Prime Video. On Friday, during a presentation at New York Comic Con, the Critical Role team revealed the cartoon’s opening title sequence.

The video depicts characters played by the original cast of the long-running series, including voice actors Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham.

According to the video’s official description, The Legend of Vox Machina “will follow a band of misfits with a fondness for boozing and brawling. In a desperate attempt to pay off their mounting bar tab, these unlikely heroes end up on a quest to save the realm of Exandria from dark magical forces. From a sinister necromancer to a powerful curse, the group confronts a variety of obstacles that not only test their skills, but also the strength of their bond.”

This new animated series will cover the events of the first season of Critical Role, a lengthy campaign known as Vox Machina. The troupe’s second campaign is called The Mighty Nein, and was followed by the interstitial series Exandria Unlimited. A third full campaign arc premieres on Oct. 21. It will be livestreamed for free on Twitch and YouTube. The actual-play troupe is also partnering with Cinemark Theaters to simulcast the first episode in 20 cities across the U.S.
